Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY)

                    This is a Poverty Alleviation Programme for the economic upliftment and improvement of BPL population in urban areas with special emphasis towards women & children. As per survey conducted by the Department in 2003, the total no. of BPL households in the state is 17,758 and total BPL population is 90,951 persons.

                   SUDA is the Nodal Agency for implementation of this centrally sponsored scheme. During 2007-08, the agency received a total of Rs. 191.11 lakhs for implementation of the following main components of SJSRY:

1. Urban Self-Employment Programme (USEP):

                        Assistance is provided to selected enterpreneurs by cah subsidies and bank loans. During the current year, a total of 255 beneficiaries from the target group of under-matric unemployed you were assisted under this component. Each beneficiary received Rs. 7500/- subsidy and Rs. 40,000/- bank loan.

2. Development of Women & Children in Urban Areas (DWCUA):

                        Assistance is provided to Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with cash subsidies for taking up any income-generating scheme.

3. Thrift & Credit Societies (T&C):

                        Seed capital is provided to women (SHGs) of upto a maximum 25 members. 59 T&C units were provided financial assistance during the current year.

4. Urban Wage Employment Programme (UWEP):

                    To provide for inadequate or missing infrastructure in slum areas, UWEP provides wage earning opportunity to BPL families by taking up various construction works. The missing infrastructure & amenities are constructed by the community itself. Under UWEP, a total of 47,175 man days were generated during the current year.
